Pray

Here you will find a variety of prayers and reflections.

PRAYER

  •  When you do not have the words

The Spirit too helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in speech. He who searches hearts knows what the Spirit means, for the Spirit intercedes for the saints as God himself wills.

Romans 8:26-27 NAB

  • Individual or public prayer

“Private prayer is like straw scattered here and there: If you set it on fire it makes a lot of little flames. But gather these straws into a bundle and light them, and you get a mighty fire, rising like a column into the sky; public prayer is like that.

St. John Vianney 1786 – 1859

  • When you wonder about the power of prayer

Later, when key military leaders defected to a “rebel” army base, Cardinal Sin went to three orders of orders of contemplative nuns and told them, “We are now in battle.  Prostrate yourselves pray and fast.  You are the powerhouse of God and central to the battle.  Fast until death if necessary”….Soon hundreds of thousands made a human role around the base….President Marcos ordered the tanks to attack.  Their commanders refused to proceed when nuns and priests sat in front of their tracks.  Pilots ordered to bomb the rebel base with its human cordon, refused and defected to a nearby United States military base.[1]

  • When you do not  know when to pray

Let you whole life be a prayer to God. During the day offer your thoughts and your actions; your whole being as prayer.

John M. Kingery, 2011
